An exclusive final hours edition of Tomb Raider released via Steam today. The video goes with behind the scenes of Tomb Raider with early thoughts and planning of the project.
The video reveals that Tomb Raider: Ascension was the original name during early concept of the recently launched Tomb Raider. The game world was going to be Open-World, with a very dark survival-horror theme and a emotional connection with a little girl Lara should protect; which then was replaced by a monkey, and finally removed.
The game was supposed to take inspiration from Resident Evil series, Shadow of the Colloseus and Ico. The game starts development in early 2009 and few images were leaked during July 2009. Crystal Dynamics also sacked many employees and hired new talented developers from Rocksteady, Rockstar, UBISOFT, EA and many more for the re-imagining of Lara Croft.
Maybe the concept was cool, but not proper for retelling a story. What do you guys think?
Tomb Raider was released on March 5, 2013 for PC, PS3 & XBOX360. The game received 87% metacritic scores so far.
