According to a report from Polygon, Ubisoft has partnered with two French government research organizations, the Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA) and the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), who will both assist UBISOFT in developing a game engine for an upcoming next-generation title.
The game is being developed for PS4 & XBOX720 and is said to be codenamed "Mango," and will receive around €14 million invested in the project over about two years time. This amount of money investing in the project could tell the game is another Assassin's Creed as the franchise is very well established now and bringing huge profit for UBISOFT.
The latest title in the franchise Assassin's Creed III, started development during January 2010 and was released this October. The development time frame there was nearly three years, and the project did a remarkable job of staying a secret until it was announced back in March 2012.
If this indeed ends up to be "Assassin's Creed IV", there still can be more Assassin's Creed game coming between this. Fall 2013 will most likely feature the release of "Assassin's Creed 3.1" and possibly an "Assassin's Creed 3.2" for Fall 2014.
Those two games can still be developed with the AnvilNext game engine, which still can offer many new things with more tweaks.
If all the speculations are true, and the development of this engine starts this January with almost 3 years in development like Assassin's Creed III, you can expect Assassin's Creed IV to be released during Fall 2015.
